Jim Lacey has written an excellent article covering some of the damning stuff we did find after overthrowing Saddam Hussein. Yes, the huge stockpiles weren’t there as we expected, but critics of the war have gone too far in painting Saddam Hussein as basically non-threatening.  I also wrote an article on this topic that you can check out by clicking here.

Here are some facts that Lacey mentions that it seems almost everyone has forgotten and aren’t mentioned in my article:

• Saddam had already completed construction of an anthrax production facility, which was a week away from going live. If it had been permitted to go into production, this one facility could have produced ten tons of weaponized anthrax a year. Experts estimate that anthrax spores that infect the skin will kill 50 percent of untreated victims. Inhaled anthrax will kill 100 percent of untreated victims and 50 percent of those receiving immediate treatment. That means that a mere 1 percent of Saddam’s annual production (200 pounds) sprayed by crop-duster over New York City would have killed upwards of three million people

•  Saddam even had a huge bio-warfare production facility masquerading as the Samarra Drug Company. This facility would have been capable of producing up to 10,000 liters of deadly pathogens a year. It was less than a month from going into production when the invasion of Iraq began

• Investigators also found two labs that appeared to be producing animal vaccines. However, according to investigators, all of the equipment was “dual use . . . and easily diverted to produce smallpox or other pathogenic viruses.” Another nearby lab was busily working on cowpox vaccines, with the exact same equipment necessary to create smallpox.

•  Between 1996 and 2002 — the eve of the invasion — spending on WMD projects increased 40-fold, and the number of specific projects increased from 40 to 3,200

• Saddam’s minister of military industrialization, Abdullah Mullah al-Huwaysh,stated that Saddam was working to reconstruct all of his WMD programs within five years. In his words, this would have included “a sizable nuclear inventory on hand for immediate use.”

• One set of details appears in a report written six weeks after 9/11. It states that Iraq was sending an administrative officer to establish and oversee a terrorist training camp, and lists the equipment being dispatched in the first set of supplies:

15,000 Kalashnikov 7.62-mm rifles
15,000 [SKS] rifles
5,000 Browning pistols
5,000 Markarov pistols
1 high-quality photocopier

The memorandum ends with the names of 52 fighters waiting for training in the camp.

There are very reasonable reasons to feel the invasion of Iraq was the wrong thing to do, but opposition to the war should not lead to a misrepresentation of the threat Saddam Hussein truly did pose.

This is an interview conducted by freeper Chris Donohoe (April15bendovr) with freeper Joseph Shahda (jveritas) about Saddam regime WMD programs and their relations to terrorism based on his translations of some captured Saddam regime documents. Also he talks about some Al Qaeda-captured documents.

On the WMD issue, Joseph Shahda reveals that the documents clearly indicate that the Saddam regime opted to build the precursors required to make chemical weapons rather than the final chemical weapons product. They did this for two reasons. First because these precursors are dual-use materials and Saddam could always claim that they are used for civilian industries and not chemical weapons. Second the precursors have much longer shelf than the final product and when required it would only take the Saddam regime a few weeks and in some cases few days to assemble final chemical weapons products.

On the terrorism issue the documents prove that Saddam had much more relation with terrorism than previously thought. For example, some documents show that the Saddam regime had trained foreign terrorists from 1999-2003 and at the beginning of the war Saddam ordered his generals to treat the foreign terrorists as if they were special forces in the Iraqi army and to give them the same wages and benefits.

Also in the video Joseph Shahda talks about an authentic Al Qaeda document written by a top Al Qaeda leader called “Saif Al Adel,” which proves once and for all that Al Qaeda terrorists led by Zarqawi came to Iraq before the war and established terrorist cells not only in Northern Iraq but also in the Sunni areas in central Iraq that are totally controlled by Saddam. This clearly indicates that although we do not have proof of an operational relationship between the Saddam regime and Al Qaeda, it is an absolute fact that Saddam’s regime turned a blind eye on the Al Qaeda presence in Iraq, operating under the old saying “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Document http://www.ctc.usma.edu/aq/AFGP-2002-601693-Trans.pdf which is still up on the Harmony Data Base website is a captured Al Qaeda document in Afghanistan and shows without any doubt that Aymen Al Zawahiri who is the Bin Deputy and the so called “Al Qaeda Brain” had visited Iraq as well as he had visited Iran. The document does not indicate which year he did the visit but it is for sure after the year 1995 based on the context of the document. Other reporting from different sources said that there is an indication that Zawahiri visited Iraq in 1998, and this document confirms that he indeed visited Iraq. The document refers to him as Aymen but it is very clear he is Aymen Al Zawahiri because document mentioned that Aymen was the leader of Jihadists in Peshwar Pakistan and indeed Aymen Al Zahiri left Egypt in 1985 after his release from prison and went to Peshawar Pakistan to organize and lead some islamic terrorists there.

Saddam regime had established relations to Al Qaeda, and this is yet another important smoking gun about this relation. We have posted before on FR the Iraqi document that talked about a meeting between Bin Laden and the Iraqi Intelligence per Saddam authority where the meeting took place in Sudan in 1995. Only very few regimes had relation with Al Qaeda and Saddam regime was one of them. After 9/11 the President was absolutely right in removing this terrorist regime and the whole world is a better place without it.

This document is still up running on the harmony data base as you see in the link and it posted in both Original Arabic and its English translation. The Harmony Data Base list the captured AL Qaeda documents from Afghanistan published by “The Combating Terrorism Center at West Point” and it is different from the Docex/FMSO website of the Iraqi documents that was unfortunately shut last November.

I am very surprised that no one else in the Intelligence Community picked up on the content of this document that shows Ayam Al Zawahiri visit to Iraq. In fact the Senate Intelligence Committee per the influence of the democrats went all the way to deny that such a visit took place despite that they were reporting about it.

This is the SMOKING GUN.

Below are some excerpts form the document:

“…..Some of them went to Saddam; others went to Iran and so on…. When the rest knew that AYMEN is the leader, and at the same time he and the others knew of all the people that had been arrested during the past seven months and the government did not announce that until it gathered them and named the organization “Talae’ Al-Fath”… This is what happened on the outside of unbelievable events. AYMEN went to Iraq and Iran, and now he told Abu Mujahid Al-Filistini that he regretted writing “Al Hasad Al Mur” (Bitter Envy) and thinks that he rushed in….”

I just found this that give an absolute proof that Ayman refered to in the document is Ayman Al Zawahiri.

Among al-Zawahiri’s works is a scathing attack on the moderate philosophy of the Muslim Brotherhood, titled Al Hasad al-Murr: al-Ikhwan al-Muslimoun fi Sittin Aman (The Bitter Harvest: The Muslim Brotherhood in Sixty Years). Therefore the document which says that “Ayman is the Author of AL Hasad Al Mur (The Bitter Harvest)” is for sure Aymen Al Zawahiri.

Document CMPC-2003-015588.pdf which is dated March/25/2003 talks about a meeting between Iraqi Officials in Damascus and the leaders of the Popular Front For the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) a terrorist group lead by Ahmad Gibril. The Palestinians pledged 500 fighters including groups that they call “Istish’Hadeyea” which means “Suicide Martyrdom” i.e. “Suicide Terrorists” to come to Iraq and fight the US lead collation troop. The group also included terrorists who are IED experts and car bombs experts. These hundreds of Palestinians terrorists were to go to Iraq through Syria. The Iraqis approved this Palestinians offer, and in handwritten note over the typed memo; “Taha Yassin Ramadan who is Saddam Chief Deputy” not only approved it but he wanted to know the time of arrival of these terrorists and where to meet them on the Syrian/Iraqi borders so they can send the vehicles to pick them up. What is also interesting in the memo is that the PLF was working with Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and other Palestinian Organizations to increase the suicide operations they call it “Feedaeya” inside Israel so it will coincide with the war against the coalition troops.

This is another document which proves that it was Saddam Hussein who brought the “Foreign Terrorists” to Iraq, those terrorists that have caused so much death and destruction to the Iraqi people and Iraqi infrastructures and they are still doing it until now. Other documents that have been translated and posted here  talk about the Iraqi training the “Foreign Terrorists” and a Saddam memo to treat them as equally as the Iraqi Special Forces.

Mr. Khaled Ahmad Gibril and Dr. Talal Naji said that there is coordination going on with the organizations of Hamas and Islamic Jihad and other Palestinian organizations to escalate the suicide operations in the inside and that is timed with the resistance of the Iraqi people.

Mr. Khaled Ahmad Gibril and Dr. Talal Naji informed us that the Front decided to send forces to Iraq to fight to the side of the Iraqi people and in the locations chosen by the Iraqi leadership, and preferably to be in cities. And the groups that will be sent are elite units and have experience in cities warfare and that thess forces will be made of 500 fighters and it will arrive Iraq in groups and as follow:

1. The first unit: It will be composed of 100 fighters and will arrive in three days with its complete machines and equipments, and each platoon from these platoons is made of an air defense anti-aircraft group and equipped with 23 mm Strella machine guns.

2. The second unit: it will be made of anti-tank with SPG-9 launchers and a military engineering group to plant improvised bombs that are remotely guided and car bombs and it include Suicide Martyrs groups and each platoon of these platoons has these weapons.

3. The third Unit: The fire support unit and made of multi rocket launchers 107 and include Suicide Martyrdom elements and fighting elements and also has a guiding unit.

The Front ask that these forces enter from the North of Abou Kamal area, and these forces do not need anything since it has enough weapons and ammunitions and it only need fuel.

The delegation said that they go the initial approval by the Syrian side to send these forces to Iraq.

It is noteworthy that the delegation expressed its amazement of the administration of the battle from all its political, media, military, and economic sides, and they are optimistic of the certainty of victory God willing.

Note from Ryan Mauro: Notice that the terrorist delegation “received permission” from the Syrian government to go to Iraq to prepare to fight Coalition forces. It is important to recognize the strong links between terrorists and the countries that sponsor them. The relationship doesn’t simply begin and end with training or other assistance, but often involves consultation, joint planning, and as shown, sometimes even forces the terrorists to get approval for operations from the governments they rely upon.

“Saddam’s regime is intensely secular and is wary of Islamic revolutionary movements”. This is a quote from page 77 of the Senate Select Intelligence Committee (SSIC) report on Saddam regime WMD and his ties to terrorism issued on September 8th 2006.

However there are two documents dated September 2002 that totally destroy this notion that Saddam regime was “secular”. Document CMPC-2004-005167.pdf is an Islamic FATWA for JIHAD against the United States and its allies because of the coming war against Iraq. This FATWA for JIHAD was issued by the International Islamic Conference Organization in Iraq and called on all the muslims in the world to use any available means to fight the United States and that it is the duty of each muslim to conduct JIHAD against the US. Another document, CMPC-2004-005285.pdf, contains memos from the writer of the FATWA for JIHAD to Saddam deputy Prime Minister and head of the Iraqi Military Industrialization Ministry informing him that they sent him copies of the FATWA for JIHAD and then a response form Saddam deputy Prime Minister thanking him for the copies.

In the day of 10 Mouharam before the coalition forces started the war on Iraq, 50 trucks for land transportation entered Syria on an intermittent convoy. I met some of the drivers and they did not know what they carried in these trucks. These trucks were loaded from an unknown location in Baghdad and was brought to the drivers and the Iraqi Intelligence was with them. Each time they crossed a certain distance, the Iraqi Intelligence stopped them and asked them what are they carrying and their answer was we do not know. And when these trucks arrived to Syria in the area of Deir Al Zour the drivers were taken out of their trucks and the Syrian Intelligence ride instead. These trucks were entered into large warehouses and when these trucks were emptied it was given back to the Iraqi drivers. And they were given a reward worth of 200 dollars for the safety of arrival. One of the drivers mentioned to me that this was second time they carry these secrets loads and the first time was 1 Mouharam.

I have a friend in Syria who works in a Syrian company as partner with a Syrian merchant. This person is an Iraqi ex-Consul in the Iraqi embassies and he resigned from the diplomatic circle and he has strong connection with the Iraqi Embassy in Syria and he knows all the Iraqi Intelligence and those knows that I work for the Iraqi opposition in Syria. I was visiting him daily during this period to find out the important news. When the trucks entered Syria I went to him and told him that Iraqi Weapons entered Syria so he said to me who told you that and I said to him I knew from my sources, and he told me to keep this confidential and not tell anyone because it indeed entered.

Document http://70.168.46.200/released/04-20-06/CMPC-2003-013956.pdf dated in the year 2000 and document http://70.168.46.200/Released/06-21-06/ISGQ-2003-00044424.pdf dated January 2002 contain memos that talk about finalized research and the plans to locally produce Chemical Materials that can be used as Precursors for Chemical Weapons and that are prohibited by the United Nations for Iraq to produce locally. These materials were allowed to be imported under strict UN regulation because it can be used for other civilian industries and that Iraq should have declared exactly the imported quantities of these materials and where it is used and the balance in bi-yearly report to the UN. However Iraq was absolutely prohibited from manufacturing it locally because it will not be controlled by the UN and thus it can be used to produce Chemical Weapons.

Some of the Chemical Weapons Prohibited Precursors include DICYLOHEXYLDIACARBODIIMIDE which can be used as a Precursor to make SARIN Nerve Gas. SODIUM CYANIDE AND POTASSIUM CYANIDE can be used as a Precursor to make TABUN Nerve Gas. These materials fall under the List A of the United Nation Monitored Iraq Import/Export Goods, see page 9 (A.36, A.37) and page 11 (A.50) http://www.un.org/Depts/unmovic/documents/S-2002-515.pdf , but again these materials were absolutely prohibited to be locally produced in Iraq whereas it is very clear from these memo that the Iraqi were set to produce these Chemical Precursors locally. The Sodium Cyanide and Potassium Cyanide were listed under “Drug research” programs to make it less suspicious.

Iraqi document ISGZ-2004-01894 is yet another powerful proof that Saddam regime was heavily involved with terrorism.  This document is about a plan of terrorist attacks that were planned by Saddam regime and was known as “Blessed July” terrorist plan.

The translation below was made by the Pentagon translator(s) and the translated document was posted on the FMSO Iraqi documents website before it was unfortunately shut down on November 2nd 2006. Fortunately I was able to download it and save it before the website shut down

Iraqi document ISGQ-2004-00060580 is a memo that contains a direct order form Saddam Hussein in the middle of the war asking to treat the Arab Feedayeen i.e. the non Iraqi Foreign Arab Terrorists as equal as the Iraqi soldier in salary and benefits and not just any soldier but those in the Special Forces. Those were the same Arab terrorists who stayed in Iraq after the removal of the regime and caused those horrible attacks mostly on innocent civilians. That could be a stretch, though, as I don’t know why the Iraqis would openly praise such firings as a “suicide mission” or how they could say it would help “liberate Palestine,” but I feel the possibility should be mentioned.

Page 22 of this document IISP-2003-00026588 which was written during the Iraq War in 2003 is from an Iraqi Intelligence officer to the Director of the Iraqi Intelligence Apparatus where he discussed with him information about Hamas eagerness to participate in the war against the US via the Palestinians students who are studying in Iraq. The intelligence officer expressed his great gratitude to Hamas but he added that the Iraqi regime will be happier if Hamas attacks US and Israeli interests inside and outside Israel. “however we will be happier if we hear about any campaign that target the US and Zionist interests inside the occupied territories and outside it.”

This document is yet another clear indication of Saddam regime undeniable connection and support to terrorists, and that this regime is a terrorist one.

2. The representative informed us about the departure of his family but he stayed and he is under our desecration to execute what is asked from him; he and his group from the members of the Movement who study in the country.

3. We assured him with our gratitude to their position and that it is not strange to the principles of the Movement and its work, and the sincerity of its intentions, however we will be happier if we hear about any campaign that targets the US and Zionist interests inside the occupied territories and outside it.

PS: Al Rantisi became later on the leader of Hamas and he was killed in an Israeli air strike in April 2004.

In this document ISGZ-2004-028179 there is a report by the Assistant of the Iraqi Intelligence Director to his boss “The Director” dated January/23/2003 regarding the visit of one German and one Frenchman to Iraq and these two guys talk about their strong relation with the top government officials in both France and Germany. In this letter the German that German Chancellor Schroeder was totally opposed to the idea of the war in Iraq and it his opposition to the possible war that made him win the German elections held in 2002. Also there is an important part of the letter where it mention the visit of German Chancellor to meet with the Chinese Prime minister and that the Chinese PM told Schroeder “about the information that was obtained by the Chinese intelligence and it says that Iraq has moved his mass of destruction weapon to Syria and the German Chancellor told him that the German intelligence did not indicate this. And after two days the US state secretary went to Damascus to check on this with the Syrian government that in turn denied this news.” Also in the letter it show the fear of the French to join the war because of the heavy losses that will suffer..

In the date of 10/1/2003 the two mentioned above arrived to the country in visit for two days only and they did during their stay with the following activities:

1. They met with the deputy of the Industry and minerals ministry and they spoke with him about the possibility of building the non working factories since the year 1991 and provide the country with the spare parts that the ministry needs in the domain of industry.

2. They met with Mr. Ghazi Faysal the chairman of the department First Political Department in the foreign ministry and they spoke with him about the following subjects:

D. He indicated that Chirac became a honorary President of Europe not through elections but through popularity since most of the countries of Europe oppose the war but this man is not courageous and he needs the support of Iraq and for example present what proves that his weapons of mass destruction were destroyed.

C. He express the readiness of French and German companies to execute projects in Iraq as long as the necessary moneys are guaranteed to execute these projects because its revenue decreased lately due the decrease of oil exports.

3.In our meeting with the German Holzer he spoke about the following subjects:

A. He was shown a secret report prepared by the French Army Chief of Staff who presented to Jacques Chirac warning him of the losses that the French troops suffered in Spain and Germany during Napoleon campaigns because the participation of France in the possible war against Iraq will let her suffer huge human losses because it is impossible getting the Iraqi President by aerial bombing and that the entering in street fights will be a disaster for them

B. He intend to buy a residential house in Baghdad under the name of his wife where as his wife is Palestinian and that he visited one of the houses in Arsat and he paid the house own (150) 150 thousand dollars but the latter asked for 300 thousand dollars.

4. Opinion:

A. There phone has been wiretapped for surveillance and they were followed and also the there was phone wiretap of the Syrian Jamal Saba for surveillance because they vist him and to control their relations and we will show the results later.

B. The Paris station informed us that they were coming to the country to prepare for a visit by the ex-German economy minister with a delegation of German companies to the country for commercial purposes and their visit to the country was shortened because this is not the first time we have doubts about their real intentions toward the country.

In another part of the document ISGZ-2004-028179 the Iraqi diplomat in Paris has a secret report about the Frenchman Loik Le Floch and his strong connection and influence over top level French official and French policy maker. This Le Floch is the Iraqi main connection and lobbyist to the French government. You can see in this letter the great interest of the French in Iraqi oil.

1.Upon his return from Iraq in his first visit on 5/7/2002 the counselor of French President Jacques Chirac and officials in the French foreign ministry called him and discussed with him the results of his visit to the country and the possible capabilities to develop the relations in the domain of OIL in Iraq, he confirmed to them the importance of developing the relation with Iraq in all domains including the OIL domain.

2. On the date of 5/9/2002 he met important personalities in the German parties an he confirmed to them the importance of standing with Iraq and he relate to them the same vision shown in the previous paragraph (1) that he related to the French officials ( we previously notified you with this according to letter 251 on 8/9)

3. In the date of 10/9 he met with on of the counselor of the German Chancellor Schroder and he informed him that the latter explained to President during their meeting in Germany from the risks of going behind the American position because their help to her will have dangerous implications on the world and he asked the French President not take any position without consulting with him (You were notified with this according to our letter 368 on 13/9).

4. He learned from his German friends that Chancellor Schroder convinced the French President to take a clear position from any American aggression against Iraq either by using his right for Veto against any new resolution that adopt the American point of view or continuing to refuse the principle of using power (You were notified with this according to our letter 427 on 17/10).

5. After his last visit to Iraq in 27/9 he was met by us and his meeting with Mr. Foreign minister and Mr. Oil minister left a positive effect and he started to defend Iraq and in a big way whether in his meetings with French and German officials or his interview with the TV channels an he confirmed that necessity of standing up against the American domination and he was convinced that his relation with us is best for him in light fo you arranging a meeting with Mr. Oil minister and he try now to distance himself from Saad Al Jader.

6. The German personality that he has strong relation with is the German Dieter Hans Halzer and who visited Iraq last Thursday (our subject letter 440 on 24/10).

7. It is possible to take advantage of the mentioned in the current moment by sending him to meet any personality whether in the Elysee Palace or the French Foreign ministry or the Prime ministry in addition of sending him to Germany when you see that to get her position. Your caring of him during his visit to the country will strengthen our relation with him and his influential and important personality in the French medium. He will be one of the important sources that through it we will penetrate the most important French institutions that fall within the goals mentioned in our annual report.

Document ISGP-2003-00014647 is another proof of Saddam unmistaken ties to terrorism. In this document Saddam ordered the payment of 25000 US Dollas for the family of each person who conducts suicide terrorist operation against Israel. The letter calls such terrorist operation as “Istichhadia” which means Martydom and they do not recognize Israel but they call the whole thing as Palestine. This has been known for a long time but it is important to see the unmistaken proof about it via this document. The word “Intifada” in the letter refers to the Palestinian revolt, but I guess most know what Intifada means so I did not change the name and left it its Arabic form.
