Today’s Protests Focus on Remembering the Martyrs

  • Click here to see footage of Iranians paying tribue to the Neda and other martyrs who died for freedom. The footage was taken at Behest Zahra Cemetary, on June 25-26, where it’s reported that thousands gathered.
  • A young demonstrator in Tabriz reports that the Basiji arrested him and his friends and held him in the basement of Toba Mosque, where they were beaten and tortured, and demanded that they confess to having ties to people outside of Iran. The regime is desperately trying to get “evidence” to back up its assertions that the uprising was orchestrated by the West. The student provided the names of several of his torturers: Jahazi, said to be a representative of Ayatollah Khamenei; Hasan Shakeri, from the IRGC; and their boss was a large man called Haj Hussein, about 45 years old with a long beard. People like this need to be blacklisted by the U.S. government. We need to freeze their accounts, make their names known so they can never feel safe, and if possible, get an international indictment against them.
  • The Internet is basically shut down in Bandar Abbas, with Yahoo! and Gmail working so slow it is almost impossible to communicate.
  • At least three people were killed in the uprising today. Names were provided.
  • In the Janat Abad part of western Tehran, more than 100 people fought with security forces. Demonstrators are shouting “Death to Khamenei!” The rallies are becoming more and more about regime change than just the election, with the specific goal of getting rid of the Supreme Leader.
  • On June 24, Dr. Khaleqi, the CEO of a prominent pharmaceutical company and critic of Ahmadinejad (who forced him to retire upon taking office), was found murdered in his home. The report sent to me says he was killed by 5 plainclothed agents.
