Chavez threatens Columbia
As reported here, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is claiming that Colombian troops deliberately entered Venezuela. “The threat against us is growing,” Chavez said. “I call on the people and the armed forces, let’s go, ready for combat!”
Analysis. Stirring up trouble in Honduras didn’t work so now Chavez is back to Colombia. What really upsets him is the possibility that the United States may have base leases in Colombia from which we could keep track of what is happening in Venezuela. Considering Chavez’s reputed close ties with the FARC, we should perhaps consider what else Chavez might be exporting besides oil.
