Iran Update, 21 Sep 09, Part 2
These events have been reported to World Threats.
The prayer that officially ends Ramadan was held at Tehran University this year instead of the great Musala of Tehran due to fear of demonstrations.
Seventeen senior Ayatollahs declared that last Sunday was not Eid-el-Fitr, the end of Ramadan. These seventeen ayatollahs include: Yousef Sanai, Hossein Ali Montazeri, Ali Sistani, LotfollahSafi Golpaygani, Nasser Makarem Shirazi, Seyyed Abdolkarim Mosavi Ardebili, Hossein Nori Hamedani, Seyyed Mohammad Taghi Modaresi, Seyyed Sadegh Shirazi, Asdollah Bayat Zanjani, Seyyed mohammed AliDastghaib, Ali Safi Golpangani, Vahid Khorasani, Hossein Mazaheri, Eshagh Fayaz, Seyyed Mohammad Saeid Hakim and Sheikh Bashir Najafi.
A site belonging to Mir Hossein Mousavi has called for coordinated action by the sources of canon law to break the Khamenei regime.
After the Qods Day protests against his regime by several million Iranians throughout Iran, Khamenei said, “accusing each other … is not a good thing to do.” He also said there should be no reconciliation with the leaders of the “Velvet Revolution”.
I don’t agree spreading mistrust in the society. This accusing each other in the media which is escalating every day is not a good thing. It makes me sad. It has made our lives gloomy. The sinners must be punished but we should not talk of the sins so much or accuse the others based on rumors.
The meeting of the Maraje (sources of canon law) in Qom has announced that Ahmadinejad’s administration is unlawful and is raising questions and are positioning themselves against Khamenei.
The management of Tehran University will punish those students who chant protest slogans at night. The students are ignoring the threats and are continuing to chant protest slogans at night.
Analysis. I highlighted Ali Sistani’s name because he is the senior Shiite Ayatollah and lives in Iraq. This indicates to me that the schism is throughout Shia Islam and not just within Iranian Shiism and the Iranian nation. Throughout the American occupation of Iraq, Sistani stayed out of the politics of the various shiite factions unless there was a religious reason for him to speak. If he is speaking now against Khamenei, then Khamenei is in religious trouble as well as his puppet regime of the RGC being in trouble with a large minority of the Iranian people.
It does not surprise me that the mainstream American media is not covering this. I doubt they have any understanding of the situation. They, and therefore the mass of the American people. will be totally surprised when Iran blows up or when Iran attacks Israel directly or via its Hezbollah proxy. The Qassems are flying again from Gaza. This may or may not be related. What we should be more attentive to is the flying of Katushas from southern Lebanon.
