Controversial Muslim Leader To Pray At Democratic Convention

By Ryan Mauro

The Democratic Party convention, which will officially nominate Senator Barack Obama as its presidential candidate, will have the first interfaith prayer session and the individual chosen to represent the Muslim community is causing a stir among some national security experts.

Frank Gaffney, the head of the Center for Security Policy, says Dr. Ingrid Mattson leads an organization connected the Muslim Brotherhood organization called the Islamic Society of North America. The Muslim Brotherhood is said by critics to be a radical Islamic movement that seeks to topple non-Muslim governments.

“…ISNA is one of many Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated groups in North America,” Gaffney says in his column for Townhall.com. “[ISNA is] an unindicted co-conspirator in a terrorism financing conspiracy.”

Gaffney further notes that high-level officials from the Bush Administration have also embraced the Islamic Society of North America, which presents itself as a mainstream, moderate organization.

The Democratic Party convention is scheduled to take place in Denver, Colorado from August 25-28. The interfaith gathering will be held on Sunday, August 24.
