Iran Update, 24 Dec 09, Part 3

Dec. 24 – Reports have been received that as Ashura approaches the anti regime graffiti has become more intense. The month of Moharam has laid the groundwork for the people to be inspired by the anti-oppression nature of Imam Hossein’s uprising (the Karbala Uprising) and because of the similar conditions currently in Iran. The people have named Khamenei as Yazid (the Umyyad ruler).

Dec 24 – The regime’s agents in Tajrish north to of Tehran forced mourners out of the Giahi Mosque in Sadabad street. Tajrish is flooded with security agents. The security forces are seizing the people’s Iranian flags (presumably ones with the religious symbols removed) and the black cloths that they have brought for their mourning and forced these people into cars.

Dec. 24 – Residents of Tehran gathered in Topkhaneh Square to commemorate Montazeri at about 1330. At 1545 SSF forces attacked the crowd and arrested some girls and an old woman. Several people were severely beaten. The security forces outnumbers the crowd three to one. All attempts are being made to prevent gatherings.

About 1430 the regime’s suppressive forces completely invaded Topkhaneh Square, Ferdosi Square around the Parke Shahr area and the streets in these neighborhoods to keep people form gathering. One person who was filming the scenes was attacked as was another person who was handing out leaflets. At 1600 the SSF attempted to disperse the crowd. The crowd went into the side streets to await another chance to gather.

At 1645 a crowd of about 3000 people moved from Manochehri Square towards Fedosi Square and they chanted against Khamenei. They were attacked with batons. The crowd moved from Topkhaneh Square and gathered in upper Ferdosi Square. The SSF pare preventing any gatherings inside the square.

Dec. 24 – In Zanjan the regime’s security agents and the Special Guards Force equipped wit anti-riot gear prevented the commemoration ceremony for Ayatollah Montazeri. the ceremony was supposed to be held in the Jame Mosque. Some of the mourners were arrested after they began chanted Allah O Akbar.
