Iran Update, 26 Dec 09, Part 1
These events have been reported to World Threats.
First a comment. The restaurant where I had lunch today was playing CNN on their TV. The events happening in Iran right now received about 30 seconds of time and included a film clip from YouTube that only showed a bunch of people walking and one chant of Allah O Akbar. By choice I do not have TV service so this is the only example I have of how much coverage the Iranian revolution is getting on American TV networks. And we wonder why the American people are always “surprised” when major events are happening and we didn’t know.
Dec. 24 – Parts of Khamenei’s followers in Qom have demanded in a scroll that Ayatollah Yousef Sanei be no longer considered a source of canon (religious) law. Basiji and plainclothes officers chanted “Qom is no place for hypocrites” and demanded that Qom’s Religious Assembly void Sanei’s position as a source of canon law.
Dec. 24 – The regime prevented the people of Kashan from holding ceremonies commemorating the death of Ayatollah Montazeri. A placard on the Hossein Mosque stated, ” … as the High Security Council has announced ceremonies for Mr. Montazeri are only allowed in Qom and Najafabad.”
Dec. 24 – Mullah Noori Hamedani a follower of Khamenei, expressed his horror at the people’s uproar against Khamenei and demanded that the regime survive. Speaking to some RGC Marines he pointed to the the decisive anti-Khamenei slogans chanted in the city of Qom and said, “silence is not allowed after these slogans chanted yesterday. Values are trespassed. Our state is based on Supreme Leadership and it must be preserved.” He expressed his sorrow that some of the regime’s crimes had been revealed and said that was an unfortunate event. He then added, “this slogan of neither Gaza nor Lebanon, I sacrifice my life for Iran and independence, freedom, Iranian Republic is offending the state, Islam and Imam (Khomeini’s) cause.”
Dec. 24 – Pasdar (President) Ahmadinejad has removed Mir Hossein Mousavi from his position as head of the Art Academy and replaced him with Ali Moalem Damghani.
Dec. 24 – Supplementary reports from the gathering at Azam Hosseinieh mosque in Najafabad say that the people chanted “this month is the month of blood and Yazid is overthrown” (Yazid was the son of Mutawiya and the Umyyad ruler in Damascus who ordered the death of Hossein.) and “they speak of Imam Ali (the first Shiite Imam) but they honor is raping” during the ceremony for Montazeri. During the ceremony plainclothes officers attacked the crowd. They tried to beat Taheri, the former Friday imam of Isfehan, but the people prevented it.
Dec. 24 – Mullah Hossein Rohani, former secretary of the High Security council, expressed concern about the uprising’s radicalism and said, “unfortunately our society is moving towards radicalism. The radicals of two poles are confronting each other. This is also seen within one family. It was the same in the first years of the Revolution. With the passing of the years it has deteriorated but it is showing up again.”
