Russia to Aid Cuba

Posted by Matthew Avitabile On October - 27 - 2008

An interesting article regarding Russia’s warming relations with their old ally Cuba:

The two sides will “discuss the prospect of training Cuban servicemen at the tactical air defence academies and training centres in Russia, using upgraded Russian-made military hardware,” Interfax quoted him as saying.

Russia has made a small fortune by selling its military wares to anti-American nations and it appears that Russia is working hard to reassert its position in Latin America. With Fidel ailing and Raul aging himself, couldn’t the Communist island spend more on human development? These plans are counter to a lot of hopes that Cuba will attempt warmer ties with the United States. Still, the U.S. is likely to open up formal relations with Cuba under an Obama administration.
