May Day in (from) Iran, Part 3
These from our friends in Iran.
In Tehran there were clashes between security forces and the protesters outside the Interior Ministry. Despite the heavy military and security presence, a number of young men clashed with security forces. They first started chanting anti-government slogans at exactly 4:45 pm near the Behboudi Station which led to reaction from security forces guarding the Ministry. The young protesters then started throwing stones at these forces.
Because the station is located near the Ministy, the security forces were not able to show a quick reaction and the young protesters were able to run into the station and leave the scene by mixing in with other people. In that moment, security cars entered the scene and tried to scare people by going from left to righ on the street but motorists on the street honked their horns in return. In Tehran at about 5:30 pm there were clashes between protesters and security forces in the Behboudi- Azadi Streets. Security forces violently beat a woman and injured her and young people threw stones and other things at them forcing them to retreat. There is still hit and runs going on in this area.
There were also other clashes at about 4 pm in Azarbaijan Street and three young people who were filming the scenes were arrested by security forces. In Tehran there is a lot of tension and commosion around the Labor Ministry and a number of people have been arrested. Security forces are patrolling the area and filming the people on the scene. There are about 3000 people out on the streets near this area.
At around 6:30 pm, security forces and Special Guards Forces attacked the people around the Ministry. They tried to disperse them in vain. The protesters ran into the bystreets and then came back on the scene. There were a few sporadic clashes in this area and the environment is very tense.
There were other reports from Tehran that about 3000 people were marching towards Azadi Square. There are sporadic clashes in Jeihoun and Azadi Street and security forces are severely beating protesters. Protesters have gathered in groups of 50 – 100 chanting slogans and then quickly disperse.
In fear of protests, at about 2:45 pm, a number of helicopters patrolled the air in Enqelab, Azadi and Satarkhan Streets to control the protests from the air.
