Head of Recount States Iraq Vote Won’t Change

Posted by Matthew Avitabile On May - 3 - 2010

There’s a lot of concern that the manual vote recount in Baghdad could sway the Iraqi election away from the winning coalition of Iyad Allawi and towards incumbent Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. The head of the recount says that that won’t happen. Faraj al-Haidari has said that the results of the recount will not change the results of the election.

Manual votes recount does not include out-of-country votes concerning Baghdad, Al Haidari said according to the judicial panel of the Independent High Electoral Commission.

660 employees from all provinces are working double shift to carry out votes recount, he added.
