Ohio Woman Says Parents Kidnapped Her for Marrying Christian

From CAN:

Vindy.com reports that a Yemeni woman in Ohio is claiming that her parents kidnapped and threatened to bring her to Yemen over her marriage to a Christian. There have been increasing incidents in the U.S. and Europe of Muslims abusing relatives for violating the tenets of their faith, with some going so far as to carry out “honor killings.”

The victim, who was not identified, says her father forced her into the back of a vehicle that her parents then drove to another location to confront her. She claims that her parents then told her that her brother was going to bring her back to Yemen. After this was stated, she sent a text message to her husband, who took their daughter out of school and notified the police.

The woman says she was not physically attacked but other individuals stole her car at this time.

The state of Ohio received international attention last year when a teenage girl named Fathima Rifqa Bary ran away to Florida, claming that her father found out she had converted to Christianity and had threatened to kill her. Follow-up police reports concluded that her life was not in danger, but she continues to maintain that her family members are Muslim extremists. Her family is fighting for custody of Bary, and her lawyer claims that the mosque her family attends in Ohio has numerous ties to radical Islam.

Bary is currently under the custody of Franklin County Child Services in Ohio as the case continues.
