Turkey is Lost

Posted by Ryan Mauro On June - 3 - 2010

Turkey is saying it will send warships to escort future aid ships to Gaza. As we speak, a second ship is headed there. Turkey may be competing with Iran over who will lead the anti-West bloc, but this competition doesn’t necessarily mean hostility as we’ve seen Turkey rush to Iran’s defense in recent years.

Turkey immediately recognized the Hamas government in Gaza, and now Hamas is showering the Turks with praise. From MEMRI:

Following a speech by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in which he attacked Israel for the Gaza flotilla events, Hamas called on the Arab and Islamic regimes to overcome their helplessness and fear of the [Israeli] enemy and to imitate Turkey in its bold positions towards Israel and in its support for the Palestinians and for removing the siege on Gaza.
