Iran Setting the Table
Iranian mullahs have made it official: nuclear weaponry may be used by the Islamic Republic. In a report by the UK’s Daily Telegraph, it has been announced that the right-wing of the theocracy has the right to nuclear bombs:
One senior mullah has now said it is “only natural” to have nuclear bombs as a “countermeasure” against other nuclear powers, thought to be a reference to America and Israel.
The pronouncement is particularly worrying because it has come from Mohsen Gharavian, a disciple of the ultra-conservative Ayatollah Mohammad Taghi Mesbah-Yazdi, who is widely regarded as the cleric closest to Iran’s new president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
This comes even as President Obama is attempting to begin negotiations with Iran. If Iran is preparing for a statement in which it admits to building nuclear weapons, Obama’s Presidency may become very tense very fast.
