As though we don’t have enough problems in the War on Terror, it is being reported that Islamists aligned with al Qaeda are advancing in Somalia. This takes place after warnings of a new al Qaeda plot against the United States.
The al-Shabaab militia seized the cities of Bulo Marer and Quryoley from the U.N.-backed government and its Ethiopian allies. The move gives the group a strategic base in central Somalia, where it also controls Kismayo, the country’s third-largest city.
If this continues, then al Qaeda may be able to reestablish control over large swaths of Somalia, making our job more difficult. Not only this, but they may be able to launch new attacks.
