The leader of the al Qaeda network in Iraq has made clear in a recent statement that the group supports Hamas’ war effort against Israel. Abu Omar al-Baghdadi said in a statement:
“Palestinians around the world … Should support (Gaza) using the military proficiency they are known for, and target Jewish and American interests everywhere,” Said Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, head of the self-styled Islamic State in Iraq, in an audio recording posted on Islamist websites on Saturday.
This could show that al Qaeda’s reach has been diminished. Instead of just launching words at Israel, a stronger al Qaeda in Mesopotamia could use suicide bombers or terrorist infantry in Gaza or Israel. Instead, simple words are used, which are not effective. This comes after similar comments from Ayman al-Zawahiri.
