Iran: No More Potatos … or Possibly Foreign Exchange

Posted by Richard Radcliffe On February - 2 - 2011

These from our friends in Iran.

Tehran- Jan. 31, 2011. Damavand Potatoes (Damavand is about 2.5 hours drive from Tehran), one of the most high quality brands of potato, has vanished. The inhabitants of the region say that because of the unorganized situation of agriculture in the country the lands used for this farming has been given to Afghans and they are planting cucumbers and vegetables there.

Tehran- Jan. 31, 2011. Shamseding Hossein, Ahmadinejad’s Minister of Economy announced that regime’s ‘Foreign exchange reservoir is empty and there is no foreign exchange in it’. At the same time the head of regime’s Trade Room and the Minister of Industry and Mines announce that 80 billion dollars is the government’s foreign exchange reservoir. The head of regime’s Central Bank announced this amount as 100 billion dollars.
These controversial statistics are common in the regime. But what is interesting is that Ahmadinejad’s government didn’t pay the metro budget which is at hand of Rafsanjani’s son and Ghalibaf, Tehran’s Mayor and said that it has no money.

Tehran- Jan. 31, 2011. Alireza Mahjoob the head of Labor Fraction in regime’s parliament said in his speech: “600 from 2000 units were in critical condition in 1388 and most of them were either temporarily closed or closed for good”. (I presume here that he means a unit equals a business.)

Tehran- Jan. 31, 2011. Ayandeh site affiliated with Rafsanjani- January 30: in a radio broadcasting a female worker of Ghaemshahr’s textile factory while crying called the network and while announcing that they had not received 9 months of their wages …criticized the deputy of Industry Minister. She said: “we went to pursue the case and we even went to the parliament to see Ghaemshahr’s MP but he too paid no attention to our demands and he even send some people to beat us”.

Khozestan- Jan. 31, 2011. Alborz Factory is Khozestan has not paid the wages of its laborers for quiet some times. The important point is that instead the owner has used that money to open a new section, door and window, in his factory which even was a part of the International Exhibition.

Tehran- Jan. 31, 2011. Fars news agency affiliated with IRGC pointed to the complaints of regime’s ambassador to France in regard with the global support for Ashraf residents (PMOI members residing in Iraq) and wrote: “the ambassador to Iran pointed to the presence of terrorist grouplet of Monafeghin in France and said: “in fact the taxes that people of France pay is used to support this terrorist grouplet; I mean PMOI who have other names such as NCRI or ten other NGOs to act under their names”.

Tehran- Jan. 31, 2011. 50 members of regime’s reactionary parliament presented a plan for summoning Ahmadinejad to parliament. Ahmadreza Dastqaib, regime’s MP counted ‘Ahmadinejad’s continuous negligence in regard with approved laws by the parliament and his irrational letters’ as the main reason for this act.

Tehran- Jan. 31, 2011. Breaking another obscenity record and while Bahonar an element of Khamenei’s band predicts inflation of 40 to 50 percent for the next year, Ahmadinejad promises decrease of prices in March. IRNA state-run news agency- Jan. 30: saying that the blessing of the ‘Subsidy Overhaul Plan’ will show itself from the beginning of the next year (March 21) the president said: “decrease in prices will start from Farvardin of 1390 (March 21, 2011)… With God’s will this great plan will draw a very bright future for country’s economy… and the future will be better than today…We are witnessing 20% of thrift in energy sector and this is a great event in freeing the resources for building Iran which was a dream of the government and the parliament!!!” (Or building a nuke or two?)

On the verge of the anniversary of anti-monarchy revolution and simultaneous with the regional upheavals especially the revolution in Tunisia that was initiated by youths of this country with the slogan of ‘bread, work, freedom’, the smell of revolutions is reaching from everywhere; Egypt, Yemen and Jordan.

Iran is not an exception. A group of brave youths of our country have called on protest gatherings in main squares of the cities with the slogan of ‘death to dictator’ on Thursday Feb. 3 demanding freedom from the dictatorship ruling Iran. We too intend to participate in this demonstration along with other youths of our country. We ask all Iranians no matter to what group, party, sector and race they belong, to join hand in hand and take into the streets against the rulers of Iran. In that regard many stratum of the society have started writing anti-regime slogans reminding the revolution of Feb.11 activating the revolutionary atmosphere of the society.
A group of youths torched Khamenei’s poster on the pedestrian bridge of Imam Hussein St. at the intersection of Damavand St. Brave youths have torched pictures of Khamenei and Ahmadinejad in Enghelab Ave. and Daneshjoo Park. In Karaj slogan of “with Iranians’ quest Khamenei is overthrown” is written in Mullah Sadra Bazaar and Danehs Amouz Blvd. The call of ‘freedom loving Iranian rise’ is also seen there. On the walls around Ekbatan apartments and Jandarmeri complexes in Tehran it is written 30 times ‘promise of the revolution, today Ben Ali, tomorrow Seyyed Ali (Khamenei)’. Close to the metro of Rezaeeha Square (Haft-e-Tir Square) and in Bahar Shiraz region these slogans are seen: death to Khamenei/ death to Ahmadinejad/ in month of Bahman we will make you go just like Tunisia’.

At Packdasht region, Behboodi St, Jayhoon St, Ghasroldasht, Imam Hussein Sq, Tajrish and Ghaytarieh in Tehran people have started nightly cries of Allah O Akbar reminding the nights before revolution of 1979.

Though the clerical dictatorship tried to dig people more in their problems by subsidy cuts to be able to rule longer with more suppression but it forgot that the aware youths of Iran especially the students being the bastion of freedom will stand beside people and will reveal this suppressive plan, as the students and graduates of Tehran University have revealed the suppressive nature of this plan in their statements and have promised to stay beside people till the end.

Undoubtedly we are in the last days of Velayat-e-Faghieh Establishment. Being inspired by the anti-monarchy revolution, the revolution in Tunisia and Egypt we will topple the rulers of Iran.
