U.S. Confirms Traffic from Iraq to Syria
The New York Times has this report confirming the much-speculated-about Iraqi traffic into Syria before the launch of OIF. The former head of the National Imagery and Mapping Agency, James Clapper, confirms that satellite photography showed a huge increase of traffic into Syria from Iraq in the months before the war. Although he could not offer proof, he said he believed WMD was included in this traffic.
This isn’t the “smoking gun” some people had hailed it as. It does not say that there was a specific shipment the U.S. was concerned with, or any indications the traffic included WMD besides opinion based on logic and assumption.
