Iranian Students Protest at Tehran’s Amir Kabir University

Iranian Students at Amir Kabir University have protested the arrest of student activists and the ban on certain students from entering the university. According to the report given to me, 500 Iranians launched a sit-in, although I cannot verify that number.

Supporters of the People’s Mujhaideen of Iran have sent me this report, along with photos:

On Saturday February 21, 500 students of Amir Kabir University in Tehran staged a protest sit-in.
This sit-in was in protest to:

A project carries by officials to bury soldiers who died in the Iran-Iraq war in this university. (University officials use this method to create an environment of suppression and limitations in the university by misusing martyrs.)

The arrest of Hussein Turkashavand, Majid Tavakoli, Ismail Salmanpoor and Kurosh Daneshyar (student activists).

The fact is that Ahmad Qasaban, Sajad Veis Moradi, Ali Asqar Sepehri and Yusef Rashidi were banned from entering university.

Students carried placards which read, “Evin Prison turned into university, university turned into cemetery”, “we were and are against this” and “Imprisoned student must be released”.
These students chanted slogans such as, “Hey dictator, you use martyrs as an excuse”, “death to dictator”, “students will die but will never bow down” and “you insolent bassijis, do not talk of martyrs”.

These protestors demanded the freedom of four imprisoned Amir Kabir students and that the five students who were banned from entering the university be allowed in. At the end, students asked all participants to take part in another sit-in and hunger strike on Sunday February 22, at 1:30 pm.
Twenty participants were immediately summoned to the Disciplinary Committee for taking part in this sit-in. The Amir Kabir “Protection Department” along with security organizations have also started calling active student’s houses and threatened their families, telling them that their children will be dealt with. In some of these calls, agents immorally insulted the mothers of some university students.
