Rumblings Against Assad Continue in Syria
On March - 16 - 2011
The Reform Party of Syria has emailed out the following updates:
- Protests are planned for this Friday, March 18, after Friday prayers.
- 34 people were arrested today for demonstrating in front of the Interior Ministry (RPS provided their names, which included 14 females, showing how women are playing an increasing role in the revolutions). One eyewitness estimated there were 500, not just 150, at the protest. RPS says that Suhair al-Attasi, for example, is “becoming the face of the opposition.”
- The opposition is changing their tactics. Instead of naming precise locations, the protest sites are kept secret and are being assigned numbers in an effort to force Assad’s security forces to be stretched.
- There is a backlash against the Kurdish leaders of Syria for not endorsing protests and there are calls for their resignations on Facebook by some activists.
